First a makeshift table, then a terrarium. Oh, the stories this indoor ...

When they first set eyes on their home in Palos Park 10 years ago, Rob and Tara Womer liked the comfortable feel of the small frame ranch with its old-fashioned kitchen facing a quiet wooded lot. They even liked the sunken pond that was embedded in the middle of the tile floor in the foyer.

Liking the indoor pond, however, was entirely different from adopting it into their home. "I was afraid to fill it up," said Tara Womer, who was expecting their first child when they moved into the home. "And I was afraid it would have odors."

As the years went by, the 5-foot-by-8-foot oblong cement and glass block pond was never filled with water.

Harper to draw the line on Afghanistan

The election, of course, won't be fought over Afghanistan. That is Harper's wish because he knows that the government has shown such incompetence in governing over the past few months that his hawkish stand on Afghanistan maybe the only thing that parts of the population may see as positive. However, it also carries downsides. The handling of the mission by the Harper government has been as loaded with lies as any other part of their agenda and the opposition parties could argue that Harper can't be trusted to be handed a majority and be given a blank cheque on this or any other part of their agenda. It also presents an interesting conundrum. If Harper goes to the electorate with Afghanistan and wins a minority (polls show a Liberal minority right now but let's give him the benefit of the doubt on this), he either has to change his policy on Afghanistan or the Governor-General has to ask the LPC to form the government even if they have less seats.

Conservative Elites to Christians: Remember Your Place

And as this pattern continues, a glaring hypocrisy is emerging. In short, all religions are to be beyond criticism or question, with the sole exception of Biblical Christianity.

At the slightest suggestion that a candidate's religion might call his or her judgment or fitness for office into question, the instant and universal response from across the political spectrum is a chorus of accusations of “religious bigotry" and intolerance. No less an icon of punditry than Robert Novak made essentially that case in his October 4, 2007 column. Unless, of course, the religion in question is Southern Baptist and the principal involved is Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, at which point the preacher becomes fair game.

To be sure, Mike Huckabee has his political liabilities.

'Vantage Point' Gets Top Box Office Vote

The weekend's other two debuts, Lionsgate's "Witless Protection" and MGM's "Charlie Bartlett," came in at Nos. 13 and 14, respectively.

Box office revenues were down for the second straight week. The top 12 movies grossed $90 million, down 23 percent from last weekend and 10 percent from the same weekend in 2007.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. "Vantage Point," $24 million.

2. "Jumper," $12.7 million.

3. "Spiderwick Chronicles," $12.6 million.

4. "Step Up 2 the Streets," $9.8 million.

5. "Fool's Gold," $6.3 million.

6. "Definitely, Maybe," $5.2 million.

Ralph Kiner - 1955 :

Carter would spend the remainder of the 80's as one of the American Leagues top power hitters. An annual All-Star snub as a member of the Indians, Carter drove in 121 RBI in 1986, joined the 30/30 club in 1987, and registered 35 HR's and 105 RBI in 1989. December 6, 1989 - Indians Ship Slugger to Padres for Future Stars: This trade helped shape the great Indian teams of the 90's as they sent their top player Joe Carter to San Diego for C Sandy Alomar Jr. and 2B Carlos Baerga. Alomar is considered by most Tribe fans as the greatest catcher in team history and had a career year in 1997, winning All-Star MVP honors and leading the Tribe to the World Series. Baerga played a key role in the Indians World Series run of 1995 and was a three time All-Star as a member of the Tribe. June 28, 2002 - Tribe fans angered over trade with Expos: Yep, I was one of those angry fans the day GM Mark Shaprio sent All-Star pitcher Bartolo Colon to the Montreal Expos for 1B Lee Stevens and three prospects; P Cliff Lee, INF Brandon Phillips, and OF Grady Sizemore.
